Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Leaked Cameras: Are Big Changes Coming?
If you’re looking for the best camera phone, then according to our guide, the iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max would be the top choice. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is not far behind, and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra might even be better.
You won’t have to wait long for this phone, as it is expected to release in January, along with the regular Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus.
We don’t know exactly what cameras the Galaxy S25 Ultra will have, but leaks suggest it could be an upgrade over the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera system. This could be great news for photographers. Below, we’ll share what we know so far about the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s cameras.
What cameras will the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra have?
Before talking about the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s cameras, let’s quickly look at the camera system on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, because the S25 Ultra is likely to build on it.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 200MP (f/1.7, 1/1.3-inch, 24mm) main camera, a 12MP (f/2.2, 1/2.55-inch, 13mm) ultra-wide camera with a 120-degree field of view, a 50MP (f/3.4, 1/2.52-inch, 111mm) periscope camera with 5x optical zoom, and a 10MP (f/2.4, 1/3.52-inch, 67mm) telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
All except the ultra-wide camera have optical image stabilization (OIS), and there’s also a 12MP (f/2.2, 26mm) front camera.
This is a camera-heavy phone, and it’s likely that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a similar setup with at least one key change, as shown in the list of expected camera specs below.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra rumored cameras
Main camera | 200MP (f/1.7, 1/1.3-inch, 24mm) |
Ultra-wide camera | 50MP |
Periscope camera | 50MP (f/3.4, 1/2.52-inch, 111mm, 5x optical zoom) |
Telephoto camera | 10MP (f/2.4, 1/3.52-inch, 67mm, 3x optical zoom) |
Front camera | 12MP (f/2.2, 26mm) |
The key change is the ultra-wide camera, as multiple sources suggest the Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a 50MP ultra-wide camera instead of the 12MP one from the S24 Ultra.
This could allow for more detailed photos, but we’re not sure yet if the sensor size or field of view will be different.
Unfortunately, the leak suggests the other cameras on the Galaxy S25 Ultra will not change. So, we could still get the 200MP main camera, 50MP periscope camera, 10MP telephoto camera, and 12MP front camera.
There haven’t been many leaks about the cameras yet, so there might be more changes. One tip from @BennettBuhner suggested the Galaxy S25 Ultra could have a 50MP periscope camera with 10x optical zoom, a 50MP 3x-5x variable zoom telephoto camera, and a 200MP main camera with a larger 1-inch sensor.
However, no one else has confirmed these specs, and we’re not sure if they will be accurate.
Even without major camera changes, the new chipset in the Galaxy S25 Ultra – expected to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite – will bring improvements.
For example, the image signal processor (ISP) – which is responsible for processing photos – will likely be more powerful than the one in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. We can also expect improved AI photography features, which will probably work better thanks to the extra power in the new chipset.
But in terms of the camera lenses, we think the Galaxy S25 Ultra will likely have the same setup as the Galaxy S24 Ultra, except for the new 50MP ultra-wide sensor.
